This might seem like a weird question, but as an influencer should you always get paid for a sponsored social media post?
It’s important to note that getting paid and getting compensated for your work is two different things! You should ALWAYS make sure to get compensated in some way, but it doesn’t always have to be in cash!
Here’s the pros and cons of not getting paid for a sponsored social media post
You don’t have to stress about how you’re getting paid.
Should I send an invoice? how do I do proper taxes on this? Can I get paid without having a company?
You’re always bringing enough value
Sometimes you want to work with brands, but you’re not entirely sure if your instagram post will bring enough value. By deciding to not get paid in cash you’re always going to be sure that the content you produce is valuable enough for the brand you work with.
You can work with bigger brands
Bigger brands have the money to pay influencers for their posts, but that also means that they tend to use larger influencers. By doing it for a lot less or even for free you’re going to have a higher chance of securing a deal with the bigger brands!
You don’t get held to the same standards
When you’re not getting paid for a sponsored post there is a chance that brands won’t take you so seriously. This can lead to them ignoring your emails or working with you once and never again.
You might be wrongly compensated
If you’re not getting compensated with money, you might end up not getting what you expected and instead feel used.
As you see there is some pretty legitimate reasons to promote brands on Instagram for “free”
Hopefully this helped you decide if you should get paid or not for your next post/campaign.
